Tonight (October 28th), Adaptive Reaction will be playing live at Jack's on Cumberland for DefSup's "The Hunger Cabaret". The event will feature 16 bands, and a ton of other stuff, stretched across 2 nightclubs on the same block. Admission is $7.00 for the whole thing (19+ only), and Adaptive Reaction hits the stage at 10:30 PM. I DEFINATELY suggest you show up early, though. There's an entire night of stuff going on (starting at Kilroy's at 8PM with our own Amy Crnkovic doing spoken word). As well, be at Jack's for 9 PM to see my new favourite local band "YR:0". It's gonna be fun! | | Tuesday, July 18th, 2006 | | 10:49 am |
Yeah.....
.....so nothing much has been up, except for the track on the Weatherhead compilation, a track on the Dark Horizons Fundraiser compilation CD, and a new track called "Your Hell", up at Myspace, which will be turning up on a compilation being done up by Definitely Superior Art Gallery. Album is 90% done, just needs some more guitars and a couple of vocal tracks. In the past couple of months, Adaptive's been signed and dropped. Some people would like me to stay frozen in ice, and continue to make nothing but straight-up hard electro. Since "Salvation", I've undergone many changes. So has the sound. It still very much fits under the "industrial" blanket, but It's been expanded.....there are guitars, heavier sounding drum lines, and a little bit more distortion. Can't mention the culprits, though. Fear of litigation keeps me tight lipped. Anyhow.....stuff will get done, and hopefully released somewhere. Toodles, m. New News Is Better Than No News At All.......
.....so the LU Radio thing went fairly decent, except for the fact that I said a fairly naughty word close to the end. I thought I'd have gotten in big trouble, but it turned out okay. We all did okay with the whole deal. Hopefully at least a few people tuned in, as we played some as yet unreleased tracks. Though if there is a next time, I'm going to try and hook up some sort of thing where we can play a bunch of tunes that we like. That would seem fairly sweet. I'll try and get some of the interview up for everybody to listen to. Thanks to DJ Araya for letting us invade her show. You should check her out Wednesday mornings from 8:30 - 9:30 on 102.7 FM or http://www.luradio.ca--------- So what's the deal with recording dept: I'm presently still in the demo process with a lot of stuff, and I've had a lot of time to sit down and scratch out ideas. We may be able to get a full 12 songs out of this one (usually for every 10 I write, I send 9 back from whence they came.....so end product stuff doesn't come about easily). There's already 4 that are pretty much set in stone, 4 that I'm really digging, and another 8 that are sounding better than usual. --------- Anybody who missed out on the LU Radio bash at DEFSUP, should be kicking themselves. It was killer. Current Mood: productiveCurrent Music: Moog Breakbeats 02 - Walter Sear - Love Child | | Tuesday, November 8th, 2005 | | 3:59 pm |

at 8:30 AM, we're going to be interviewed on LU radio. If you want to check it out, and are in the general Thunder Bay area, turn your FM dial to 102.7 If you are NOT in T Bay, you can listen in streaming RealAudio at http://luradio.ca/playlist/stereo64.m3uI was considering dragging along some as-yet unreleased stuff. Depends on if I can come up with plausable "censored" versions. We'll see.... Either way, tune in! Diva's went a lot better than the KMFDM date, but wasn't without it's problems. In short, due to recurring monitor problems, when we were on - we were REALLY on, and when we were off - we blew. For some reason, the audience didn't seem to notice all that much when we were kinda lagging. It was fun, though.........and Graham did his best to keep the sound up and running. I wish all soundmen were like that. David and Renee were totally awesome with everything, and since the show was in support of the gallery, picked us up a complimentary pitcher for playing. Since we're all Canadian, beer is about as good as cash. Sadly, due to a very full schedule, it was Shawn's last show with us. Currently, we're looking to expand things a bit. 2 guitarists would be fantastic, and a couple of people bashing on metal would be cool as well. As a base, 1 guitarist would be a good thing. But in a "classic rock" city like Thunder Bay, we may not even get that. Anybody want to give it a go? ----------- I'll have some updates on the actual site soon.......live shots and such. As well, we're going to be doing an on-air interview on LU radio sometime in the near future. I'll keep you posted. Tomorrah.....
October 29th at the Apollo, we'll be playing at Diva's Cabaret "Gothika". 12 bands, about 1/2 a dozen spoken word performances, and a bunch of other neat stuff. Doors at 7, 7 bucks to get in, and a solid 8 hours of entertainment (and free suckers!). There's gonna be a lot of really cool stuff going on, it's super cheap, and where the hell else are you going to go on Saturday? ------------ In other news, that second full-length album is chugging out slowly. I'm very selective with songs (so only about 8 from every 30 get picked to be worked on), and aside from that, there's nobody to answer to on this. Taking your time isn't a sin. I'm hoping to have something fully recorded, mixed, mastered, and ready for sale by March. Either way, unless something big or interesting comes along, tomorrow night will be the only time you'll be able to see Adaptive until sometime next year. Show or suffer, suckers. sorry, kids....
....the other night was a farce. KMFDM were amazing, despite the extreme sound and power problems. Adaptive on the other hand..........WE didn't suck, but the monitors did. After opening with "Salvation", the mix became so fucking bad, that it was like trying to play in the midst of a giant headcold. At least we could make it through all of that.......the other two songs we had time for were aborted, due to the fact that we couldn't hear shit. 10 years of build-up ended up with 10 minutes of scratching. I finally gave up during "Shed My Skin" and just sailed the mic off to stage right, laid on the floor, and admitted defeat. When somebody continuously says "more laptop in the monitors", you don't go off and have a conversation with somebody else. You turn the fucking things up. Prick. I promise the 29th will be much better. Thanks go out to Frank Loffredo for trying hard to get us on the stage when it all looked grim. More thanks to KMFDM for everything. They are truely gods among men (and women). Thanks as well to our two lovely merch peoples (Trystan and Dawn) for hawking our overpriced goods. More thanks to the people who stuck around and saw what was left of our set. Lastly, but not leastly, I'd like to raise a glass to the band. Video exists..........good god, I don't know if I want to see it. ------- The night brought many things, including a pep talk from Kaptain K himself. I think the funniest thing that came out of it is that we are the first band since Ministry to have KMFDM open for them. Badge of honour right there........and definately a point to pimp. KMFDM and their crew are fantastic people. I suggest you catch them on tour, and pick up their new album, Hau Ruck. Hopefully we'll be able to jaunt down to Milwaukee to see them and bring Lucia some persians. Current Mood: awakeCurrent Music: KMFDM - Hau Ruck | | Saturday, October 1st, 2005 | | 3:41 am |
KMFDM.....
.......that's right, thunder bay kiddies. KMFDM is TONIGHT. So put on your stompiest club wear and come on down to Warp 9 around 10 P.M. to see and hear your friendly neighbourhood EBM killing machine, Adaptive Reaction, and then stay for the legend that is KMFDM. Tickets are still available at Franki's Pizzeria, but there will probably be some at the box office as well. $20.00 is the door price. Be there, or be killed. ----------- In other news, http://www.adaptivereaction.net is up at running. Update your bookmarks! 3 days.....
.....to KMFDM, and I'm hella freaked out. Not often do you get to meet your idols. Regardless, for $20.00 you can come check us out, and then stay for the REAL show. The band is sounding great, and I think we've just about ironed out all of the bugs. The vitals: KMFDM with local guests Adaptive Reaction Saturday, October 1 2005 @ Warp 9 28 South Court Street Tickets $20.00 at any "Franki's Pizzeria" location, or online at http://www.multi-mediaentertainment.comDoors around 10 P.M. (early birds get locked outside, due to the early show happening in the very same club). -------- Other Stuff: I know I keep saying "new album soon, blah blah blah", but it's been a bust so far. Out of several recording sessions, I've only ended up with a handfull of songs that I think sound like real keepers.......and at that, the recordings leave a little to be desired. I'd rather wait 2 years, than put out what I fear may be a substandard album......and at this point, nobody is calling the shots on what comes out when, other than myself. In other news, in the past year I've found no less than 4 websites either offering the ENTIRE Salvation CD as a download, or trying to sell illegitimate CD-R copies of the thing. Most have been dealt with, threatened with legal action, etc. Here's MY offer to THEM. How about you wait until I let the fucking thing go out of print, first? The actual disc, for purchase, is only $10.00 ($12.00 international......postage paid for both prices, at that). Now, I could see how somebody would have a problem paying $25 for a cd. I even have a problem with that, as I'm an avid collector. But I still pay it. I believe that music is a right and not a privelege, and in the corner of my head where my songs come from, it's free. But just to RECORD Salvation, it cost me about $1200.00 alone.....never mind the pressing. I believe I sell my discs for a fair price (all things taken into account), and depending on where you are from, between the overhead and the shipping, I may only end up with $1.00 profit on a disc you buy from me. Fair enough, I still make a buck that will go to the next album. Since I make all of this shit at my own expense, I can't realistically release another album until I have sold out of the last one. I still have a small box of "Salvation" taking up space in my living room, and finding these download sites makes me furious because of that. I really don't have a problem with people downloading stuff.....because how do you find new music these days? Not on the radio, of course. But is it so hard to shell out 10 bucks for the whole album? Not really. I'm not a rich guy, but you can count on me going out and picking up actual cd's by all of the bands that I like. Like I said earlier.........if it were out of print, I'd have no problem with it.....but it is still VERY MUCH in print. As well, if you oppose buying CD's for some reason, how about you at least just buy a fucking shirt? Bottom line, it costs money to make albums, and without a steady flow of cash from sales, the albums will stop coming after a while. It would be just like if your boss decided he wanted you to continue working, but he wasn't going to pay you anything. You'd tell 'im to fuck off. I know I sure would. Anyways....the point of this rant is that I am offering a BOUNTY for anybody finding bootlegs or illicit full-download sites that feature Adaptive Reaction material. For ratting out the baddies, you'll get an Adaptive t-shirt and a copy of the next album. Enough of me, come out Saturday! Live and album news
Just a quick note for anybody in the Thunder Bay area Adaptive Reaction will be playing live October 1st @ Warp 9 Opening for KMFDM and Acumen Nation Tickets $20 Doors open at 10 PM I'm hoping to see everybody there. ------------ Album is underway totally. It's been a long haul due to the excessive heat of the past couple months. Recording gear does not like to work properly in such temperatures, and neither do keyboards. Regardless, the whole thing should be mixed and manufactured by the Oct 1 show. I'll keep you all up to speed. Soooo.....
.....Adaptive Reaction is now a band, as well as a studio project. 15 new songs on the go, and as soon as the plumber comes to remove what I believe is lipstick from my toilet (we have bad kitties here), I'll be getting down on the resequencing, recording, and arranging of the backing tapes for live play. I always said I wouldn't do it until it could be done right........welp, now it can. A 4 piece band (vox, synths, drums, and possibly guitars.....the guitars depend on a schedule, though....so it might end up only being 3), backed by tapes of the drum and bassline sequences, as well as samples. First confirmed show is in September, followed a few weeks later by something big in October. Finally, the Bay Of Thunder (as well as other places) will be seeing some full-on industrial action. More news to follow as I figure it out. Current Mood: accomplishedCurrent Music: Augustus Pablo - Keep On Dubbing | | Tuesday, June 14th, 2005 | | 1:01 am |
Sweet fucking hell.....
.....so it's been a few months short of a year since I updated anything to do with the band. there wasn't anyting going on outside of writing......and "hey, I wrote 4 choruses today" really isn't much for news. I've finally rounded up what i think are the 15 best songs I've written in the past year and change, and I now have to worry about re-sequencing and actually recording outside of the rough demos that I have. There's a hell of a lot of Giorgio Moroder and Tangerine Dream influence. I'm going to start with the "anchor" song that I like the most, and I'll leak it to dmusic when I'm done. I'll try to have this finished by September. No promises, though. Space. Current Mood: accomplishedCurrent Music: Klaus Nomi - Total Eclipse | | Sunday, September 5th, 2004 | | 2:08 am |
A new Review! http://www.legendsmagazine.net/143/adapt.htmInitially I thought It was going to be heavily panned, and held on to my bootstraps for fear of my little artistic ego being damaged. But lo and behold, it was a really good review. I agree with him on all points, and the next disc will indeed surpass this one (if not, be a little more bizarre, due to recent intake of copious amounts Zappa and Sun Ra). Anyways, thanks go out to Marcus Pan for the wonderful review. Recording commences this coming week, as my computer will once again be whole on Tuesday. Expect some new tunes up on dmusic in the next month. Current Mood: happyCurrent Music: Mothers Of Invention - Eye Of Agomoto (live) | | Monday, August 2nd, 2004 | | 7:08 am |

New news
Currently finishing up a full transfer of sample library to emu format. Though the switch over to a new sampler has thrown a bit of a wrench into the works, it's all for the better. The next recording will be closer to what I hear in my head. Aside from regrouping/regearing, Adaptive Reaction's track "Salvation" will be featured in a movie called "Shadows On The Wall". The flick is currently in production by Michigan film maker Douglas J Struble, and from what I can tell by the script, it's something I would have went to see regardless of my involvement. Link to come soon! Radio play has been happening on "Dark Horizons" ( http://www.wmnf.org ), Le Vestibule ( http://http://www.cfou.ca/ ), and a bunch more totally hip radio stations. Charts will follow as soon as I can lump them all into something digestable. If anybody hosts a radio show, or knows of one that should be playing Salvation, please drop an e-mail to brap@tbaytel.net . Tell us where this station is, who we sould contact, and hopefully give us an address as well. We'll bombard them from there. .....and though it's been threatened in the past, I've been doing some poking around into what I'd need to do Adaptive live. Needless to say, it a little while off.....but it's definately in the cards for the future. Thanks to everybody who has been supercool so far. All of the airplay, praise, and purchases are much appreciated. It's nice to know that somebody is listening. More news soon, as things seem to be picking up here in the Adaptive compound. Full page launch, etc.....
Well, here goes. It's been decided that instead of a conventional news page on the Adaptive Reaction homepage, a weblog format would be much easier to update (and possibly much easier to ramble in). This is THE source. Nothing else is acceptable. --------------- Salvation is officially out TODAY. So go back to the page, check out the merch section, and BUY ONE. This puppy has been 2 years in the making. While you're at the page, check out the other merch we have up for grabs. As well, if you check out the "audio" section, You'll be able to download 3 full songs from "Salvation". Check them out. If you like electro-industrial or EBM, you should dig it. more news to come..... Current Mood: accomplished |
